FURNAS has been working in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to plan actions that help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Brazil, focusing on the 2030 Agenda. Social investments are divided into:

FURNAS Social Program

Selection of projects by social organizations through tenders, aiming to improve the quality of life in the communities within company operating areas.

Land Development Program

Created in 2005 to promote the social and economic development of communities and neighborhoods, the program seeks to qualify, integrate and stimulate the relations between community groups organized with the local government and civil society in general. The aim is to build co-responsible organizational and participatory processes for the emancipation of their territories.

The Community Integration Center project was born from a partnership established between FURNAS and the Brazilian Institute of Social and Economic Analysis (IBASE), to promote the sustainable development of low-income communities neighboring FURNAS' facilities and operations.

The project invests in the active participation of the local population as an essential component for its organization and autonomy, in establishing solutions to local problems and in deploying the proposals for their solution. It also helps to distribute responsibilities among the various players and to monitor the population and the solutions that interfere with public policies alongside public authorities. The project aims to strengthen communities and develop a common project for local development, aiming to facilitate public dialogue.
